December 2015 - Hurry hurry !
|
- Zvezda : Hawker Hurricane Mk.I
A quick final build of the year
Typical Zveda, good shape - rather basic - but a fun quick build
I was surprised this little 1/144 scale snap kit captured the shape of the Hurricane so well
Part I
|
December 2015 - Genesis
|
- Frog : Focke-Wulf Fw-190A
Built just for fun
And to complete my Fw-190 model kit collection - this is the first shortnose in 1/72 scale, going back to 1959
Surprisingly, this old classic still was good for several hours of fun
Part I
Part II
|
December 2015 - Lude the experiment
|
- Revell : Fokker D-VII
- Reviresco : 1913 Mercedes Torpedo
To complete my Revell World War I collection I built this kit,
and because it didn't have any decals, I used for the first time Reviresco full kit decals on it
I also discovered the white metal car range of Reviresco, and gave the Mercedes a try, the perfect ride for the pilot

November 2015 - Memory tripping at Gnat speed
|
- Matchbox : Gnat Mk.I Trainer
I had bought this kit out of curiosity when I had finished my new tooling Airfix Gnat
The Fast Jets Group Build was again a good excuse to satisfy my curiosity
Typical Matchbox, good fit, but basic details - and I loved seeing the 2 plastic colors again
Part I

Part III
|
November 2015 - Killing two birds...
|
- Frog : Mirage IIIE/O
I hadn't seen many Frog Mirages around, so when I saw one for sale - I grabbed it
The Fast Jets Group Build AND the ANZAC Group Build were the perfect excuse to build it
The kit was solid, but a little basic, and it went together rather well. I enjoyed painting and finishing it

Part IV
|
November 2015 - South African memories
|
- HobbyBoss : F-86F-30 Sabre
My participation in another Weekend Speed Build - and finished in a little more then 24 hours
A very simple kit - and a very simple paint scheme... though I spent about 2 hours on all the decals
Part I
Part II
Part III
|
October 2015 - The white challenge
|
- MikroMir : Vickers Valiant Mk.I
I always loved this subject and when MikroMir released this kit last year, I immediatly bought one as soon as I saw one
Unfortunetaly it has a serious shape issue in the canopy area - which took me a lot of time and effort to fix
Otherwise the kit assembles well for a limited run product - though decals proved to be very fragile

|
October 2015 - It can not swim...
|
- Airfix : Chieftain Tank
After having had so much pleasure building the Airfix Sheridan, I got myself the Chieftain
It didn't fall together like the Sheridan did - it was a little bit more wonky - with a lot of detail parts - well for it's age anyway
Part I
Part II
Part III
|
August 2015 - The Grand Duke
|
- Mark I Models : Focke-Wulf Ta-152H-0
I didn't have high expactations of this kit, I just build it to complete my Mark I Models collection
It turned out to be one of the most pleasant - and trouble free - builds since a long time
Part I
Part II
Part III
|
August 2015 - The Missing Link
|
- ProResin : Blohm & Voss Ha.137 V5
I build this as a companion for my Supermarine 224, as both types are a bit similar
It was my second all resin kit, and as such an easy one with a few challenges
Part I

August 2015 - Turkish delight

- HobbyBoss : P-40 B/C Hawk-81
A weekend speed build with a HobbyBoss kit
Which turned out to be a pleasant experience

July 2015 - It can swim...
|
- Airfix : Sheridan tank
My entry for the STA Group Build, which ment any subject as long as it doesn't fly
I had a cheap Airfix Sheridan - and I tried new paints and new weatheringtechniques on this kit
My first tracked vehicle build in 30+ years
Part I
Part II
Part III
Part IV
|
July 2015 - The Belgian Battle
|
- Zvezda : Fairey Battle
A gift from our pal from Australia : Fred, who also proposed a GB
Of course I had to do mine in Belgian markings - what required a few small modifications
The canopy was scary
|
July 2015 - The Vapor Queen
|
- MPM : Kawasaki Ki-64 Rob
My entry for the T123 Group Build
I already had 2 Kawasaki prototyes in the collection, and I thought a 3rd one would be neat.
A bit of a rough build
|
June 2015 - Forever dolphin love
|
- Mark I : Aero L-29 Delfin
My 3rd Mark I kit, built to complete the range
A pleasant trouble free built of a not that well known type - done in Egyptian markings to join my Egyptian Yak-11 on the shelves
Part I
Part II
Part III
|
April 2015 - When I was a teenager
|
- Airfix : Supermarine S.6B
My entry in the FA (Fleet Air?) GB
I needed something with floats - which could be build quickly... in 4 evenings to be precise
I still have the much better Frog kit of the S.6B - to do the type better justice, so this Airfix kit was just a quick OOB fun "whiffer"
Part I
|
April 2015 - Daddy Cool
|
- RarePlane : Supermarine 224
My first vacform
My entry in the Vac GB - and again started it a mere two weeks before the deadline
So again it was a rush in the end
But I made it - and I was pleasantly surprised... I think I will do more vac builds
Part I
Part II
Part III
Part IV
|
April 2015 - The wrong wings
|
- Trumpeter : F-86F-40-NA Sabre
One of Trumpeters better efforts - really a little jewel
I didn't want to do a silver scheme, so I ordered some Liliput Air Force decals, for a Portuguese scheme
But then I found out - they used the earlier types (so I had a kit with the wrong wings)
Luckily forum members pointed me out these aircraft were later upgraded to block 40 types,
so I still could do a grey scheme... all's well that ends well
Part I
Part II
Part III
|
April 2015 - Unfinished symphonies from dad II
|
- Hasegawa : 8 Ton Half Track Sd.Kfz.7 & 88mm Gun
Finishing another one of dads unfinished models after 25+ years
I only did the painting - and tried out the Vallejo German Afrika Korps (DAK) 1941/1942 paint box following their instructions
I was quite happy with the result
Part I (incl. Moson Model Show 2014 show report)
|
April 2015 - The Good Deed
|
- Airfix : de Havilland Tiger Moth
Intended as a quick build, as putting effort into it is kinda stupid after the new tool Tiger Moths appeared
Still I ended up doing a bit more - requiring more time
Part I
Part II (incl. Belgian Scale Modellers Convention 2014 report)
Part III
|
December 2014 - Number 17
|
- Revell : Nieuport 17
A quick weekend build, finished in a mere 3 days between Christmas and New Year,
to increase my production numbers for 2014
And I managed to have a lot of fun with at as well :-)
Part I
Part II
|
December 2014 - Skies over Cairo
|
- MikroMir : Yakovlev Yak-11
Two kits in the box - which is very clever, especially if you goof one up,
you can start the other one... and in the end I finished both of them
Really the best small 1/144 scale kits I built so far - offering good and very fine detail
Part I
Part II (incl Plastic Winter 2014 show report)
Part III
|
December 2014 - Neighbours
|
- Airfix : De Havilland DH.82a Tiger Moth
- AZ Model : De Havilland DH.82a Tiger Moth
Joining the Tiger Moth Groups Build, I prefered to do my Tiger Moth in Belgian markings...
which I found in the AZ Model kit, so if I was going to rob these decals,
I figured I might as well build it. And compare...
Both are nice and enjoyable kits

November 2014 - Making good use of wrong
|
- Revell : Morane Saulnier 'N'
Started with te intention of finishing it in 2 days, it took me 3 weeks
It was still one of the quicker builds this year - the trick was to keep
things OOOB (Out of the Old Box) as much as possible
Very pleasant build - though I wish Revell had done a better accuracy job on it
Part I
Part II (incl. Les Caméléons Expo 2014 show report)

November 2014 - A hundred years ago
|
- HR Model : Nieuport Nie.10
My choice as my build for the Word War I Group Build
Again a well detailed and pleasant kit from HR Model, though I didn't like doing the
perimeter stripes
Due to too many work obligations - I could only finish it just in time - on November 11th

September 2014 - Heinkel He-219A-5
|
- Mark I Models : Heinkel He-219A5
A little model (in 1/144 scale) that required some elbow grease to get it onto the shelves
Especially the mottle in this small scale was a challenge
It took me almost half a year to finish

July 2014 - The promise I made
|
- HR Model : Phönix C.1
A model I finished already in March - but only in July I had time to do the final post
Basically I had promised Jan H. from HR Model to have his Phönix finished before the Panther's Cup,
the first major Czech Model show in the year
I started it early March - and was able to finish it in just two weeks - thanks to the good qualities of the kit

July 2014 - The old square
|
- KP : Avia B.534

May 2014 - The Duel
|
- Airfix : Focke-Wulf Fw190A-8
- Hasegawa : Focke-Wulf Fw190F-8
My participation in the Group Build of the new Airfix Fw-190 was spiced up with comparing it against the Hasegawa kit
Both were very pleasant builds, the Hasegawa kit having very good fit, and the Airfix kit having good detail

April 2014 - A decoy
|
- A Model : Kochyerigin DI-6
My only entry in the Great Patriotic War group build
A typical A-Model build, it looks rough in the box, but with some work an interesting model can be made
|
March 2014 - End of the Line
|
- Frog : DH Hornet F.Mk.3
After having built an Airfix and a Matchbox kit for the BBGB, I thought it was a good idea to also do a Frog kit
Problem was I only had about 10 days to finish it - what I barely managed

|
February 2014 - Westland Wessex HAS.3
|
- Mark I Models : Westland Wessex HAS.3
My first helicopter in the small 1/144 scale
It looked nice in the box - but it was pure limited run material when building it, still the attractive Australian Navy scheme was worth it
Part I
Part II (incl Plastic Winter 2013 show report)
Part III
|
January 2014 - A banshee start
|
- Airfix : F2H Banshee
My Airfix participant in the baby Boomers GB
It was a pleasant build - only troubled by my painting mistakes

|
December 2013 - My 20 for 2013
|
- Matchbox : SdKfz 234/2 Puma
A quick finish as this kit was assembled by my father almost 30 years ago
I finished it (by painting it) now - in a short time - to make up my output nbrs for 2013
Part I (incl overview my 2013 builds)
|
December 2013 - The Weekend Edition
|
- Airfix : DHC Chipmunk T.10
My participation in the Chipmunk GB
It's a nice classic kit with low parts count - and I managed to finish it (very basically) in 2 days
Part I
|
December 2013 - A Dutch treat
|
- Matchbox : Curtiss P-40N Warhawk
My first entry for the baby Boomers GB (1946-1964 area)
It's a very basic kit - but I believed with a little TLC it could shine
It took me a long time and in the end I rushed it a bit to get it finished

December 2013 - Et maintenant une jolie française
|
- Airfix : Dassault Mirage F.1C
I wanted to add to my collection one of the most elegant aircraft in the world, the Mirage F1
It's not a difficult kit but I had a hard time with it - but luckily I still ended up with a presentable example
Part I (incl Flying Legends 2013 show report)

|
November 2013 - Little time... little model
|
- Zvezda : LaGG-3
With a very busy period in my life, and little time for the hobby, I figured building a small 1/144 scale model was the way to go
It indeed didn't require so much work - but it still took me 2 months to finish it
Part I
|
October 2013 - Dora on speed
|
- Airfix (Airwaves conversion) : Messerschmitt Me-109D
A long time ago I wanted to a Messerschmitt Dora conversion with the Airwaves conversion set.
The perfect opportunity came with the Me-109E GB on the Airfix forum
But I didn't find a proper early canopy, and had to "adapt" the kit's late canopy.
A not so good paint job classified this one as one of my not so good builds

|
August 2013 - Hier kommt die Sonne
|
- AZ Model : Gotha P.60 C1
I was looking for a quick build - and I thought a Luft'46 would fit the bill - since I could take short cuts on accuracy
I was wrong - the engines were to small and I had to make them bigger
I could go wild on the camo scheme though - something which I enjoyed very much

August 2013 - Cheaper then a beer... and it shows
|
- Frog/Novo/TechMod : Morane Saulnier MS.406 C.1
We had a very hot July month this year - making it very difficult to focus myself on a worthwhile modeling subject,
so I decided to build this old classic - which I had bought for 30 CZK (about 1 Euro) one month earlier
It turned out to be a pleasant experience, excellent for practicing my airbrushing skills on a difficult (for me) French camo scheme
The Turkisch Air Force markings made it suitable for the Club Med GB

|
July 2013 - LS F-16
|
- LS : General Dynamics F-16
To complete my small 1/144 scale F-16 collection - I finally got around building this one
It was a quick and easy build
Part I
|
July 2013 - Desert Blitz
|
- Airfix : Opel Blitz
Another one of my dads last builds which he started about 30 years ago, but never finished
I finished this Blitz in a few evenings as my ifrst entry in the Club Med GB
I followed dads idea - and hooked it up with a trailer, instead of the Pak
Part I (incl Hendon Model Show 2013 show report)

|
June 2013 - Revell & Dragon F-16
|
- Revell : F-16C Fighting Falcon
- Dragon : F-16C Night Falcon
Since my first builds in 1/144 scale about 20 years ago, I have been looking forward to a good F-16
Late 2012 Revell treated us with a new tool and it is a real beauty - I bought it right away and started it soon
It's not an easy kit - but it looks every inch an F-16 once finished
I build it together with the Dragon F-16 as comparison

June 2013 - Unfinished symphonies from dad
|
- Airfix : Panzer IV F1/F2

Part I
Part II
|
March 2013 - An Aerial Limousine
|
- Airfix/Classic Plane : Airco DH.4 Airliner

January 2013 - The time of the Gipsy
|
- Novo (Frog) : DH60G Gipsy Moth Biplane

I found some spare free Insignia magazine decals for a Chilean Air Force trainer to go with it
Part I
Part II
|
January 2013 - Tony's heavy brother
|
- RS Models : IJA Heavy Fighter Ki-60
Inspired by many Ki-61 Hien builds on the forum, I started a Ki-60
A well detailed limited run kit with nice PE parts
But I failed on the Alclad test - and I had to use a Tamiya spray can for the finish

December 2012 - A Zero high
|
- Airfix : Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero
+ Jo-Han : A6M2 Zero Zeke/Rufe floats

November 2012 - The Duxford mission
|
- Airfix : Spitfire F Mk.22
- AZ Model : Spitfire Mk.22
My mission at this years Duxford show was to find/buy the new Airfix Spitfire Mk.22
Unfortunately it was not available there, so I got one on eBay - and started it very soon
It was joined by the AZ Model Mk.22 because I liked the markings options for this kit much better, and used them for both builds

September 2012 - A Hotel Puma
|
- Airfix : SA.330 Puma
My boss at worked sent me to South Africa for 3 weeks
I still had to finish a multi engine build for a GB on the Airfix forum, so I took a Puma along with me
It was mostly build in my hotel room in South Africa - except for decals, a final clear coat & weathering
Part I
|
August 2012 - The wrong kit
|
- Special Hobby : TT-1 Pinto
I bought the civilian release of this kit by mistake, and thought I might as well as build it then
However later I bought the US Navy trainer edition - and used the schemes & decals from this kit, to finish it
It was not my finest hour, I'm happy to have the subject in my collection, but I don't think I will try another one

February 2012 - Race against the snow
|
- A-Model : Yak-1
After taking pictures of the I-3 in the snow I wanted to build a proper aircraft in winter camo for similar pictures
Unfortunatly, weather forecasting predicted the end of snow so it was a race to finish the model before the snow was gone
Part I
Part II
|
February 2012 - Claus' Ken's twin brother
|
- AZ Model : Kawasaki Ki-78 "Ken"
I started this kit after a trade with Claus from Denmark, we both build our Kens together in the prolonged 1/72 scale GB
Finished in two weeks time, it was a pleasant nice kit of an unusual subject
Part I

|
January 2012 - Polikarpov I-3
|
- AGA : Polikarpov I-3
I started this as a quick project in last years summer, as my first build in the 1/72 GB
The big radiator halted me, and only my 2012 New Year resolution made me finaly finish it -
just when the first snow hit Belgium
|
January 2012 - The sobbing son
|
- Hasegawa : Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero fighter
I was still on a Zero high after finishing my 2 Sons of the sun, so the old Hasegawa tooling was dragged
from the stash to the bench for a no thrills quick build
Again it prooved to be a very enjoyable experience - finishing the kit in just 6 days
Part I
Part II
|
January 2012 - Sons of the sun
|
- Airfix : Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero
- Hasegawa : Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero fighter Type 21
After finishing the new Airfix early P-40, I decided to do the new Airfix Zero too,
since no builds were done yet on the Airfix forum - a month after its release
I teamed it up with the modern Hasegawa tooling, the major competitor of the Airfix kit
It was my most enjoyable build since a long time, though I messed things up with hand painting
the canopy frames

December 2011 - Flying sharks
|
- Airfix : Curtiss Hawk 81-A-2
- Trumpeter : P-40B/C Warhawk
- AML : Curtiss P-40 Tomahwak I
I always had a soft spot for these early P-40s, and as soon as Airfix released their new Hawk kit,
I bought one
And it was the perfect excuse to start building a small collection of these aircraft, all having a shark mouth
|
|
... one of them was the AML kit which fought me bravely
It was the toughest kit I build this year

|
Airfix : Supermarine Spitfire PR.XIX

It is a nice kit but I made it difficult for myself by filling all the deep panel lines

Vami Models : Me P Schwalbe
My second full resin kit, for the sake of getting more experience with resin
I had bought it cheap, so I wouldn't loose much money on it, and it was Luft '46 so I didn't have to worry about accuracy
Average kit, but it looks pleasing on the shelves, and knowing not many of these are on shelves is pleasant too :-)

with Magna Models : Bristol Beaufighter Mk.II
This was my first serious work with resin
Using Magna Models' resin conversion set, I tried to get a Merlin engined Mk.II Bristol Beaufighter
from the Airfix
It was the hardest modelling project in my life so far, the project was even shelved for half a year - but
eventually finished after 1 year in a mad race against time

RS Models : Ambrosini SAI.207
While being sick at home I started this quick build project
It is a pleasant little kit, providing everything that is needed - and most important for me,
there is not much documentation out there to distract you into AMS territory

Feb 2011 - First resin kit
|
- Vami Models : FW 190 Falcon Wing
- Academy : Focke Wulf Fw-190A-8
Always fascinated by weird subjects, I sooner or later had to start a resin kit.
My first try at this medium is with the Vami Models Fw-190 Falcon Wing, build on the Resin GB forum.
Halfway the build an injected Academy Fw-190A-8 joined in.

Dec 2010 - September Brothers
|
My Spitfires needed some playmates.
So I opened an Airfix Me-109E for the ABBoBAGB.
Some other kits joined in, incl an RS Models Me-109X,
though the ICM Me-109E kit proved to be the king.

Oct 2010 - Spitfire Summer
|
While building the Spitfire duo below - Airfix
released suddenly an all new Spitifre Mk.I
I bought one on eBay and build it along the the AZ Models
Spitfire Mk.I early mark - accuracy wise the main competitor for the new Airfix Spitfire.

Aug 2010 - Spitfire Summer
|
Ever since my teens I wanted to build a two bladed Spitfire, the only out of the box option
for a long time was the Hasegawa kit.
What better excuse then the ABBoBAGB on the Airfix forum to build it together
with another iconic classic from my youth, the Airfix Spitfire Mk.I.

June 2010 - Wallflower Spitfire
|
I have to confess I had never heard of the early mark Long Range Spitfires, with their typical
port underwing fuel tank.
As soon as AZ Models released this Spitfire Mk.IILR, I bought one.
It was the first Czech limited run kit I ever build in my life.

Dec 2009 - 3 Little Würgers
|
After having build my first Revell Fw-190 in 2008, I liked the idea of a kit manufacturer collection
of little Würgers.
The Airfix GB forum was a perfect excuse to start another Airfix Fw-190F,
together with 2 other Würgers; another one from Revell and one from Mastercraft.

May 2009 - Kit beyond hope
|
From the disposal list - to a great fun build.
I regretted buying the Airfix Dornier Do-217 Mistel
as soon as I opened the sealed box back home. This one was definitelly beyond hope of ever getting build.
But after my Komet adventure, I was looking for another Airfix kit to goof around with on Hyperscale.
So, what was better then this disposable piece of ancient junk ?

April 2009 - Saving Grace
|
Abandonned in a corner of my hobby room lay an old Airfix 1/144 scale VC-10,
waiting to be binned.
Fellow Airfix builder Neil Scrimgeour showed up with a VC-10 build on the Airfix forum,
and kindly pointed me in the direction of some interesting decals from TwoSixDecals.
This was the kiss of life for this dead project.

March 2009 - Whirly woes
|
Originally I wanted to build the Airfix Swordfish, which I had bought second hand from a friend,
together with this Airfix Whirlwind HAS.22.
Upon examining both kits, I discovered the Whirlwind model was already started.
I don't like partially build kits in the stash - that's how I ended up
building my first helicopter kit EVER.

Sept 2008 - The tiniest
|
My first postings on Hyperscale, when Brett started an Airfix Group Build, I just had to participate
Careful, not to make too many waves, I choose possibly the smallest aircraft kit in the Airfix catalogue,
the tiny yet brutal Me-163 Komet.
I finished it in just a few days time.
